UK car production fell for the second consecutive month in April

According to foreign media reports, industry data released on May 30th showed that due to car manufacturers ceasing production of some existing models and more factories transitioning to producing electric vehicles, UK car production in April this year decreased by 7% year-on-year, marking the second consecutive month of decline.

According to data released by the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) in the UK, a total of 61820 cars were taken offline in April this year, compared to 66527 in the same period last year. In March this year, the country's automobile production decreased by 27.1% compared to the same period last year.

Data shows that in April, the proportion of electrified vehicles (including pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and hybrid vehicles) in the total production in the UK was 40.5%, an increase from 37.7% in the same period last year. SMMT stated that in April, car manufacturers produced a total of 25031 electric vehicles in the UK, a slight increase of 0.1% compared to the same period last year.

With giants such as Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover's parent company Tata Motors investing billions of dollars in the country to strengthen electric vehicle production, the production of electric vehicles in the UK is continuously increasing, and the country is currently striving to achieve zero emissions by 2050.

Meanwhile, SMMT also added that so far this year, the cumulative production of cars in the UK has decreased by 0.8% compared to the same period in 2023.

SMMT CEO Mike Hawes said, "In just a few weeks, the UK is going to hold an election. The next government must ensure that it not only creates favorable conditions for the competitiveness of the UK manufacturing industry, but also creates favorable conditions for the investment needed for the automotive industry to transition to a zero emission future."
